City Breaks: Prague, 2015

One of my favourite things about this blog is that it's a place where I can look back and remember what was going on at certain points in my life. It's not just a place where I can let you guys know what I've been up to, but also a place to store memories for my future self.

A couple of weeks ago, on my uni Easter break, I hopped on a plane to Prague in the Czech Republic, to stay with one of my bestest chums, Gaby, who is studying there for her year abroad. And oh me oh my, what a bloody beautiful city!

DAY ONE

My flight landed at about 3pm, which still gave me the rest of the evening to have a quick walk around the city. My first stop was Old Town Square, where I got to see the Astronomical Clock and the Jan Hus Memorial Statue, and surprisingly didn't sample any of the amazing smelling street food!

We then took a walk along the Vltava River so I could see Prague Castle in the distance (which I later figured out is actually St. Vitus Cathedral, the castle cannot be seen from below!), and walk along Charles Bridge.

We then went for a quick bite to eat at Kafe Damu, where I got my first taste of how bloody cheap it is in Prague! For this slice of cake and glass of homemade lemonade, it cost about the equivalent of £2.

DAY TWO

Day 2 was my favourite day. The weather was absolutely gorgeous, and we decided to climb to the top of the hill to see the views from the castle.

We first stopped on the other side of the river for a photo-op with Charles Bridge (and the swans).

I then picked up some mango ice cream from a little stall (so so good!), and on our way to the castle, found the most adorable hidden garden with peacocks walking around...

We went to find the Lennon Wall, a memorial graffiti wall created after John Lennon's assassin, on the way to the castle. I swear, every building was just so cute, like something out of a Disney film. When we got to the wall, there was the most adorable guy with a guitar, singing Ed Sheeran songs. I may have put some money into his guitar case.

We then started the trek up the hill to the castle, stopping along the way to get some good pictures of the view, of course. We went to the monastery, the castle, and the cathedral, stopping for lunch on the way down at what I believe was called the Panorama Cafe! After that, we headed to, yes, another cafe (I really didn't stop eating that week), Ovocný Světozor, which sold the best cakes and milkshakes ever, with a London theme running through the restaurant.

DAY THREE

Day three was the first of a few naff-weather days. We took the train to Karlštejn, a tiny village about 40 minutes away from central Prague, to visit the castle there. The village was so cute, and the castle reminded me of the castle from the film Tangled. Please tell me I'm not alone there?

We grabbed some lunch from a little restaurant before getting the train back home for a much deserved nap. After catching up on a couple of episodes of Ex on the Beach, we headed off to Ananas-Bananas cocktail bar with Gaby's housemates for some super cheap (yet delicious!) cocktails! I got a Sex on the Beach and a Strawberry Pina Colada for about £5.

DAY FOUR

We braved the horrible wind to go to Vysehrad, a historical fort built on top of a hill, overlooking the city.

After this, we went to the Palladium shopping centre to buy myself an iPhone charger, as typically, mine broke while on holiday (thanks Apple, for changing the iPhone 5 cord so that we can no longer borrow peoples' chargers). We grabbed some lunch from an Asian restaurant in the food court, where I got this huuuuge chicken noodle dish for about £2. Seriously.

After another much needed nap and more Ex on the Beach, we had champagne pre-drinks and headed out to a club, Nebe. I'm not a shots person at all, but my goodness, vodka+lime cordial+a cherry = my kinda shot!

DAY FIVE

For my last day before heading back to London, the weather brightened up, allowing us to go on a boat trip, yay! On our way there, I stopped in a little shop to try some Trdelnik, a kind of vanilla pastry-cake thing, moulded around a bar to create a swirl, and rolled in almond sugar - so good! We then headed to the boat, where they gave us a free drink and ice cream with our ticket.

After the boat trip, we headed back to Charles Bridge for one last time, before grabbing the cutest hot chocolate EVER, from Kafe Damu (I'd highly recommend it there, honestly!).

And finally, after grabbing some touristic souvenirs, we met Gaby's housemates at Pasta Fresca, for my favourite meal of the trip. Although it was the most expensive meal, for a really good bowl of pasta and large glass of homemade lemonade, it still only came to about £6.50. I ordered the spaghetti al chitarra with tomatoes, Italian bacon, chilli and pecorino cheese. And it was gorgeous

I had such a good time in Prague, and hope to visit again in the future, but I would highly recommend giving it a go for yourself! It really is a beautiful city, and SO cheap!!! Thank you so much to the lovely Gaby, for letting me stay with her and entertain me for a few days. As far as friends go, you're a keeper! <3

Have you been anywhere interesting lately? Leave a comment down below if you'd recommend somewhere abroad, I'd love to see more of the world!
